The Requirements

To meet the basic qualifications for this role you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a good fit for the Physical Therapy Assistant opportunity, you also should have:
  • An associate's degree in Science or Applied Science in an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.

We'll expect you to come into the San Ramon or Burlingame office for a monthly meeting (in some situations you can join the meetings virtually), but otherwise you will spend your time in the field at patient homes. Our goal is to minimize your drive time, but you should be prepared to visit patients within 15 to 20 miles of your home. If you do have to travel far, we'll try to assign you to multiple patients in the same area. The Role

You will report to the Director of Rehabilitation or Rehabilitation Manager, and take case-by-case direction from a Physical Therapist. Typically you will support one or two Physical Therapists, communicating closely with them.

You will provide physical therapy services and care to patients, under the direction of a Physical Therapist and according to the physician's plan of care. This will include exercise instruction; therapeutic methods like electrical stimulation; massage; and gait and balance training. More specifically, you will:
  • Provide direct physical therapy according to directions of Physical Therapist and in accordance with the physician's plan of care.
  • Treat patient to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
  • Direct and aid patients in active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and functional training, transfer activities and prosthetic training.
  • Utilize physical agents, including (but not be limited to) heat, cold, water, electricity and massage.
  • Observe and report to the physical therapist and the Organization personnel the patient's reaction to treatment and any changes in patient's condition.
  • Instruct patients in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Maintain necessary records, including clinical notes and conference notes, which will be incorporated into the patient's clinical record in prescribed time frames.
  • Participate in Home Care Team meetings and In-service Education Program.

Your supervisors are happy to take calls or meet with you to answer care questions, brainstorm ideas or help clear up confusion. Our executives take turns in a 24-hour on-call rotation to make themselves available to you at any time.
